Cancun Sketches

These are a few of my favorite quick studies I did on the way and while in Mexico. The first is at the Atlanta Georgia airport while waiting for the plane. ( The one in the photo was not mine.) The second is of the hammocks near the pool at the Haciendas in Playa del Carmen and the third is one of the plentiful little birds that always joined us for lunch.

The Bird

This illustration I did my last year of school. I had to find an artist online that I liked and try to recreate their style of art. I put it on here because this is the illustration David saw that made him want to hire me to illustrate his book of poetry. (next post)

Sunday Doodles

I always carry my watercolors with me just in case I'm inspired. At church it seemed that everyone who came in with a baby sat right next to me. there were four babies in all and I just couldn't help sketching them. Aren't they sweet. I especially like the little socked foot.

Plein Air

Well I got four paintings done this week. All were morning paintings And the only reason I had time to do them at all is cause everyone slept till noon everyday giving me alone time each day.

Bird & Flowers

I've also done some simple flower studies. I think they are quite nice actually. It was fun to use more colors than just green and brown.

Character Studies

I'm working on a series of illustrations for a new book I'm writing ...which I haven't named yet, but it involves birds (of course) and small people.

The first bird is a humming bird named Flitwing.
Barley is waving in the corner
The second is a Frigate bird named... Frigate.
The third is a bird called a Sheerwaters. Which of course is what I named her also.

Feeding Ducks

I've been to Parowan a lot. The duck pond there is one of my favorite spots. I look forward to my bread going stale just to give myself as excuse to go. I must admit I have popped several bags of popcorn and took it to them fresh, so really I need no excuse to get away. Here is a painting of three of them. I call it 'The Locals'.

Also here's a photo of the gaggle coming in for lunch:)

This is the worst of the photo's but it is my favorite one:) That's it for today. I hope to have another triptych done of the gray goose by Tuesday so look for it. I know I am:) I can't wait to see how it turns out myself.

I found this little bird I painted last winter. It turned out much better then I remembered:)

Woods Ranch Aspens

Rob and I went plein air painting last weekend and this is the painting i did. I meant to do an oil, but I forgot my easel. Oh well, next time. I put a picture of Rob painting too so you can see how pretty it was up there. It was raining and cold, but pretty.

Signs of an addict

Since I started this blog a few days ago I've been going crazy finding pictures to post. I saw this one and had to put it on. This just shows how crazy I am about plein air painting. As you can see its pouring rain so I moved my stuff into the car and continued to paint. Yes it was cramped, but I still had fun:)
